The Role of Digital Twin in Smart Factory Transformation

When assessing the lifetime value of physical assets doesn’t work, Digital Twin does. If your current system of product development is not working out for you, then keep reading.

The Digital Twin concept has existed since the beginning of space exploration but was exclusively used by NASA. It was used most notably on the Apollo 13 mission to bring the team back to Earth safely by experimenting with different solutions under different conditions whilst the spacecraft was over 200,000 miles away. This is a prime example of why every product development organisation needs Digital Twin.

Digital Twin is a virtual copy of a physical asset, incorporating real-time data captured by sensors. It is designed to enhance the product from design to manufacturing through a multiphysics model. This is proving to be one of the most effective and revolutionary technologies in the operational workflows of the product development sector.

Our most recent whitepaper covers the following topics.

  • Practical Digital Twin applications in the Digital Factory
  • Simulation-based Digital Twin
  • Digital Twin implementation
  • The ‘Edge-to-Core’ Digital Twin
  • Digital Twin implementation software platforms
  • Delivering the cloud experience on-premises with HPE Greenlake

To achieve the true potential that Digital Twin possesses it is critical to implement proper planning and a strong strategy. This is vital to establish scalability across the whole ecosystem.

In order to successfully implement Digital Twin there must be a solid relationship between the company and the technology provider, where the provider thoroughly understands the requirements needed for the company’s operational workflows. Augmented reality (AR) can also be used to tap into Digital Twin’s true extent and further improve the operational efficiency in a smart factory.

If you’re interested in finding out more about Digital Twin and its role in transforming the smart factory, click the button below to download our whitepaper. If you have any questions or queries, contact our friendly team to see how we can implement digital twin for your smart factory.
